Just like most businesses, membership organizations need to update their 'product' offerings from time-to-time. Often, this means discontinuing membership types and redirecting renewing members to a new membership type. This article explains how to do just that.
Renewable
While looking at a membership type's details (click on the respective membership type from your Dashboard), you have the option to configure your membership type's renewal settings.
The first question asks whether you want the membership type to be renewable. Every membership is renewable by default, but here you have the option to disallow members from renewing their membership on certain membership types.
If you keep a membership type as renewable, then a member will receive a notification to renew when a membership expires and they will be directed to a renewal page that renews them for the same membership type.
If you change a membership type to non-renewable, then a member will receive a notification to renew when a membership expires and **they will not be directed to a renewal page* that renews them for the same membership type. They will either (1) be directed to the main profile to select a new membership type or (2) be re-directed to renew with a new membership type.
Redirect-able
When a membership type is set to be non-renewable, then you can also determine if you want to redirect renewing members to a specific replacement membership type.
If you choose to redirect renewing membership types, then renewing members will be sent to a renewal page for the new membership type to replace their existing membership type.
If you choose to not redirect to a specific membership type, then the member will be directed back to the main profile and can pick from all of your available membership types.
