Summary

Join It has released a powerful new feature: an API endpoint for validating memberships, now integrated directly into Zapier. This unlocks new possibilities for organizations that rely on third-party tools for scheduling, booking, and managing member access.

How does it work?

Until now, Join It's Zapier integration primarily supported triggers - events that start a Zap (like a new member joining). With this update, Join It has added support for Events. This means Join It can now serve as a step within a Zap rather than just the trigger. For example:

When someone books an appointment in a third-party tool like Acuity Scheduling, Zapier can now automatically validate that person’s membership in Join It.

This is a major shift from previous use cases where data mostly flowed out of Join It (e.g., syncing members to Mailchimp or SurveyMonkey). Now, external actions can check against Join It’s member database, adding a new layer of automation and control.

Practical Benefits

This membership validation process helps:

  • Prevent unauthorized access to member-only bookings or services

  • Automate workflows that rely on accurate membership status

  • Expand how Join It fits into broader tech stacks and automations

Real-World Examples

Here are a few practical ways organizations are using membership validation in Zapier:

Example 1: Appointment Scheduling

A member books an appointment through a scheduling tool like Acuity.
The Zap triggers a 'Validate Membership' action in Join It.
If no membership is found, a filter step sends a customized email letting the person know the booking is for members only and encouraging them to purchase a membership.

Example 2: Facility Access

A tennis club uses Skedda to manage court reservations.
When a court is booked, a Zap is triggered to validate the member's status in Join It.
This ensures that only active members are allowed to reserve court time.

Example 3: Member-Only Purchases

A wine club sells exclusive products through Shopify that are only available to active members.
When a Shopify order is placed, Zapier triggers a membership check in Join It.
If the buyer isn't an active member, further steps (like flagging the order or notifying the team) can be taken.

These examples highlight how flexible and powerful membership validation can be when connected to third-party tools through Zapier.

Broad Compatibility

This setup works with any Zapier-connected tool that:

  • Has a trigger (such as 'new booking', 'form submission', or event registration)

  • Includes an email address in the data being passed through the Zap

Popular tools like Acuity, Setmore, SimplyBook.me, Calendly, or Eventbrite are all compatible with this approach.
